The Basic Chemicals business unit (BAC) is one of the most important suppliers of high-quality industrial chemicals in the world. Aromatic compounds play a prominent role in its wide product range. The business unit now holds a strong market position in all the important business divisions. Functional Chemicals

Functional Chemicals (FCC) provides plastics additives, phosphorus and specialty chemicals such as organic and inorganic colorants. Day in and day out, this business unit is on the job meeting the needs of customers in a very wide range of industrial sectors. Our high-quality plastics additives improve the processability of materials and the properties of finished products. These include flame retardants with phosphorus chemicals as a basis, plasticizers that prevent plastics from becoming brittle and colorants that make the world a bit brighter. The FCC business unit also offers finishing chemicals that improve the function of products we use in everyday life. We also provide water treatment agents (Bayhibit®*) and specialty chemicals (e.g. Baypure®*).

The Ion Exchange Resins (ION) business unit is a major global manufacturer of ion exchange resins. We provide innovative products of the highest quality as well as solid know-how in all technical application fields.

Material Protection Products

Our Material Protection Products (MPP) are used practically everywhere in the world in a broad range of applications ranging from active ingredients for anti-microbial, insecticide products to preservatives. We deliver custom solutions for almost all sectors of industry, especially the wood protection industry, the paints and coatings industry, the construction sector, health and personal care product manufacturers and the food industry.

Semi-Crystalline Products

Durethan® and Pocan® are plastic materials on the rise, offering outstanding potential for growth and innovation. They also make a strong contribution to our Semi-Crystalline Products (SCP) business unit. Thanks to our efficient production facilities and intensive product and application development, we are one of the most competitive providers in the field. The production of Durethan® and Pocan® is further supported by our manufacture of strategically relevant pre-production products. Our facilities in Krefeld-Uerdingen and Antwerp, among the largest of their kind, produce caprolactam, adipic acid and glass fibers on a global scale.

Technical Rubber

The LANXESS Technical Rubber Products (TRP) business unit, supplies its customers with an extensive portfolio of technical rubber products. As one of the leading global suppliers of synthetic rubber for the rubber processing industry, TRP provides materials and components that have a broad spectrum of uses. For example as modifiers for plastics and adhesive raw materials, as functional components for the automotive and cable engineering industries, and for the gas/oil exploration and production industries, or for the soles of your shoes.

Leather

Seasons change, fashions change, leather remains. LANXESS Leather (LEA) is one of the few suppliers providing the full range of chemical products necessary for the manufacture of leather: inorganic and synthetic tanning agents, preservatives and fat liquoring agents, dyestuffs and pigments as well as the tanning and finishing auxiliaries. A Cooperation agreement with The Dow Chemical Company, formerly Rohm and Haas Company enlarges LANXESS' product range even further.

INEOS ABS is the world’s third largest supplier of A(crylonitrile)B(utadiene)S(tyrene) polymers, with annual sales in excess of 730.000 tonnes. Seven production sites in Europe, the United States, India and Thailand employ 1550 personnel.
INEOS ABS is a subsidiary of Ineos, the world’s third largest petrochemical manufacturer, with 64 production sites located in 14 countries.

INEOS ABS is the supplier of choice for customers who require a combination of special properties including compounded colors, a specified impact strength, durability, heat and UV-resistance, weatherability and an excellent surface finish.
Applications include white goods, appliances, housings (phones, computers), automotive interior and exterior, medical and an array of others.

PCS

The Business Unit PCS of Bayer MaterialScience contributes a quarter of Bayer MaterialScience's total sales, and ranks second on the world market in the production of polycarbonates. PCS is operated by Bayer Agency Business in the Nordics. Makrolon® is the best-known brand within Bayer MaterialScience. Makrolon® is the trade name used for polycarbonate.
It is noted for its high light transmission, high heat resistance, high toughness, high creep modulus, high dimensional stability and good electrical insulation properties.

Other products in the portfolio of the BU PCS include the high-heat resistant copolycarbonate Apec® and various Makrolon®-based blends such as Bayblend® and Makroblend®. Bayblends are polymer blends based on PC and ABS and Makroblends are blends of PC and PBT or PC and PET. The outstanding properties of the blends make it possible to adapt them individually to the requirements of the particular application. The applications include automotive interieor and exterior parts, housings for cell phones and computers, sports and leisure, appliences, medical purposes, packaging etc Bayer MaterialScience has seven productions sites in Germany, Belgium, United States, China and Thailand and six Color Competence and Design Centers close to world markets.

Functional Films

The Functional Films unit is part of the Coatings, Adhesives, Specialties Business Unit, with an emphasis that is truly on the “functional”. We are looking to extend the properties of Makrofol® and Bayfol® by adding further functions and opening up new applications, and are pursuing various approaches toward this goal. We’re adapting our materials to innovative processes, technologies of the future and design trends. We’re also working on new material combinations. This is an area where Platilon® TPU films from Epurex Films, which are now part of our operations, unlock new opportunities. Our overall objective is to offer a portfolio of materials that opens up new and lucrative areas of business for our customers.
